Application Criteria:

Applicants must:

  1. Apply by the date published on the Austin Community Foundation website (https://austincf.academicworks.com/opportunities/1947) to be considered for the current year (Opening date for application acceptance: February 1, 2021. 2021 application submission deadline: March 1, 2021).

  2. Hold a current amateur radio license of any class, and furnish a copy of the FCC-issued license, or a Certificate of FCC examination credit from a recognized Amateur Radio Volunteer Examiner group, (usually AARL VEC or W5YI VEC certified).
  3. Have above a 3.0 GPA and furnish a transcript of grades and courses already taken,
  4. Reside in the central Texas area (Travis County and bordering counties of Burnet, Williamson, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, and Blanco). Attending a local college does not establish residency for scholarship purposes. AARC members, their descendants, their siblings and descendants are also eligible.
  5. Submit all required documents, along with the completed application to the Austin Community Foundation (ACF).

More information:

Applicants can also apply for a scholarship to attend a recognized vocational institute, but scholarships are not granted to online institutions. Monies are sent by ACF directly to the school for approved expenses (books, tuition, and fees).

The Scholarships can be applied to any term - Summer, Fall or Spring.

Present Scholarship recipients must reapply each year, including a copy of their current amateur radio license and a transcript of all college courses taken.

Scholarship amounts vary each year depending on the number of applicants and the investment earnings. The Copeland Scholarships have totaled about $200,000 over the life of the program. A Scholarship board of AARC administers the selection process after ACF certifies all applicants have submitted all required information. Again, only holders of currently valid Amateur Radio, FCC-issued, licenses can apply for the Copeland Scholarships.
